Scholarship Information

 

10 students will be awarded $2000 each for the September 2024 to June 2025 academic year. 

 

Scholarship Eligibility

 

To qualify for the Cho Foundation scholarship, an applicant must be:

  1. A student of Korean heritage studying in the United States regardless of citizenship status (Korean-American with US citizenship, Korean with US permanent residency or Korean National).

  2. A student residing in New York or New Jersey.

  3. A high school senior or undergraduate student enrolled full time in a college or university during the scholarship application year.

Application Requirements 

In an effort to be eco-friendly (save trees, save postage), we are requesting the following items to be submitted via email as PDF attachments:

  1. Completed application form (available online at thechofoundationinc.org).

  2. College acceptance letter or statement issued by your college/university showing your current student status.

  3. Copy of parent’s/guardian’s and your (if filed) Federal 2023 Tax Return (include all pages). State tax return not required.

  4. An essay on the following topic:  

                  What do you think is the biggest issue facing Korea right now and what would you do to solve it?  

To be sent via postal mail or directly from official email address:

5. Current official school transcript.  (Should be mailed separately by the school)

6. One letter of recommendation by a professor, teacher or community leader. (Should be mailed separately by the individual writing         the recommendation letter.)

*Incomplete application packages will not be considered. *

Application Instructions

  1. Application deadline is firm. All documents must be postmarked or emailed by the deadline. There are no exceptions.

  2. Full name and birth date must be on all pages of documents submitted.

  3. Documents that are mailed (postal) must be printed single-sided. Please do not staple documents. Paper clips are acceptable.

Important Dates

  • Scholarship Award Announcement:  May 30, 2024  -  Awardees will be notified by email and announced on this website.

  • Scholarship Award Ceremony:  August 20, 2024- (tentative date) The scholarship recipient or a representative must attend the award ceremony to receive the scholarship.
